Turkish Fish Sandwich Evoking Familiar Flavors
Upon arriving in Istanbul, I was pleasantly surprised by the intriguing similarity between Turkish and Vietnamese cuisine: both cultures have their own version of a sandwich. However, when I tasted Balik Ekmek (fish sandwich), not only did it remind me of the familiar taste of Vietnamese bánh mì, but I was also captivated by the unique essence of Turkish cuisine.
Balik Ekmek – The Flavor of the Sea
Balik Ekmek is a renowned street food in Istanbul. The crispy, fragrant bread paired with freshly grilled fish, fresh greens, and distinctive spices creates an unforgettable taste. Each evening at sunset, I often find myself drawn to the boats selling Balik Ekmek at Eminönü, where I savor the sandwich beneath the glowing sunset sky. It’s an extraordinary experience, not just for the culinary delight but also for the vast, stunning natural scenery.
Food Photography – Capturing Memorable Moments
As a photographer, I’ve tried to capture not only the delicious image of Balik Ekmek but also the uplifting emotions evoked by nature. Through my photos, I want to share with the world not just Turkish cuisine but the moments that make your meal truly extraordinary. My book, Istanbul the Lifestyle and the Food, will guide you through the unique experiences of both food and culture that I’ve had the opportunity to explore through my camera lens.
